NA YOUNG YI is a multi-disciplinary artist/director based in New York and studying in Chicago (School of the Art Institute of Chicago) who creates immersive imagery with vivid visuals and narratives.
Since 2020, she has used photography to explore herself and her close ones. She invites her close ones into these stories and worlds she builds with them in mind, creating in-person experiences to achieve that.
Photography is a surreal medium for her, a mode for constructing non-real spaces for a person to inhabit. The idea of artifice and crafted worlds enhances her experience in studio and post-production, as her lighting, color palette, and retouching consist of striking high contrast to emphasize dramatics.
Nowadays, she has been combining video projection, sound, and installation, all rooting from a photographic background. Her curation of immersive spaces showcases her goal to bring her “photographs to life.” Seeing through a lens of imitating life, she strives to create art that reminds us of the imaginative part of our minds, reflecting on our personal lives.
